No need to question it, we have officially entered the pollen season! Which of course means we are one step closer to summer.

There’s just something special about the birds that sing at night, especially after the long quiet winter nights. This Whippoorwill has been coming back to the neighborhood each spring for a few years, each night singing its song. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Between that song and the spring peepers in the background, it makes it worth it to stay up at night to listen. Turn up the volume to hear the Whippoorwill sing away.

With the crazy weather we have had lately (like snow on Fishing Opener!!), it was a pleasant surprise to see Lake Superior so calm yesterday morning. Big difference from the waves we saw this winter.
You never know what you will experience along the Big Lake.

While the temps make it feel more like winter currently (it’s been trying to SNOW today), the rivers still say it’s SPRING! The ice on the inland lakes is changing daily and everyone is hoping their favorite lakes will be clear by fishing opener. Hopefully we will get some warmer temps so we can all enjoy some sunshine soon.

The ice on the inland lakes is going out slowly. I mean it was snowing yesterday and it was in the low 20’s this am, so…
But there are a few open spots where you can see progress on some lakes. This video is of Crescent Lake boat launch on Thursday. Obviously we couldn’t deny Timber his first swim of the year even though there were a few snowflakes flying around. Personally I (Alisha) think I will wait for awhile!

It’s amazing what happens when you have snow melting in the woods and get 2-3 inches of rain! There are pop up waterfalls all over and creeks in places you haven’t seen them before. When you stop and think about how much water is moving right now it’s scary! If you go exploring be careful, the trails are slippery and might even be under water in spots, depending where you go.

The rivers are in full force after the rain we got last night. The amount of water in Cross River and Temperance River went up dramatically! If you’re looking for a reason to get outside, checking out the rivers is a great one.

The snow and ice are disappearing fast along the shore of Lake Superior! And by the look of the ice chunks coming down Temperance River, the ice is opening up in the woods as well! The weather is supposed to cool off this weekend, but that’s ok because even if we get snow it won’t last, Spring has officially moved in!
